Light vs. Shade Posted on August 3, 2020August 3, 2020 by tobydorr Is there an easy way to create info about how to know what’s best? Controlling your environment with Green Houses Green houses are a great way to extend your growing season in your area but often require some amount of temperature control to take the most advantage of them. Ventilation, either active with fans or passive with screen widows, is necessary in the hotter summer months to keep the greenhouse cool enough for most plants. When exposed to full sun greenhouses can heat up rather quickly, hence the “greenhouse effect”, and can often get over 100F in summer which is too hot for most plants. In the winter, a small outdoor heater may be necessary as well to maintain temperatures above freezing if trying to overwinter any frost sensitive plants. Supplemental lighting can also be added to extend the amount of light given to plants during the short winter days but can also lead to a buildup of heat and increase your costs if not properly used.
